Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on the 22nd of April, where everyone helps the environment. There are loads of things you can do to help the Earth:
- Save electricity and water
- Clean up rubbish
- Grow plants
- Help animals
The list can go on for ages!
The history of Earth Day
Earth Day was created in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, when he decided to do something to help the Earth, he got 20 million Americans to protest against oil spills, toxic dumps and power plants. The first Earth Day was a huge success and ended up creating USEPA. After the success of the first Earth Day, in 1990 there was another big campaign, and after that Earth Day went global. Slowly, as the years went by, Earth Day grew bigger and bigger, and now it is celebrated almost everywhere.
On Earth Day 2016, we spent our entire morning cleaning up our local beach with our friends, even though it was raining!
