Poseidon is the ruler of the sea! He is also the Greek god of earthquakes, storms and horses. His symbols are his trident, (his weapon. which was forged for him by the three cyclopes, and can be used to flip over ENTIRE islands) the dolphin, the horse (which he created) and the fish. He is married to Amphitrite, queen of the ocean. His Roman form is Neptune.
He is the fifth child of Kronos (Cronus) and Rhea. He has three older sisters, Hestia, Demeter and Hera, an older brother, Hades and a younger brother, Zeus. When he was born his father, Kronos, was really harsh, and he swallowed him whole, because he was afraid Poseidon might overthrow him. His father also swallowed his sisters and his brother, Hades, however, when his youngest brother, Zeus was born Rhea hid him in Crete. For more information on this see Zeus.
After defeating Kronos, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades rolled the dice to see who would become the leader amongst them and how to divide the three parts of the world. Zeus got the highest roll so he became the leader of the universe and he chose the sky as his domain. Poseidon got the second highest roll and chose the sea as his domain and Hades (who was always the unluckiest), got the lowest roll and got the Underworld as his domain.
